Author Visits & Bran Muffins

I love visiting schools.
I really, really love visiting schools.

Generally, I get to see somewhere in the neighborhood of 25,000 kids each year. And every single one of them calls me Martykelley. One word. Exactly like "Cher" or "Beyonce"; only they have way better hair than I do.

Each year I create a new presentation to share and spend several days at the beginning of the year worrying about how it will be received. I want the kids to like it. I want them to have fun. I want them to learn stuff.

I also want the teachers to like it. I work hard to make sure that my presentations are fun for everyone, including me.

My school year started with a visit to the elementary school in Lunenburg, Vermont. It was a tiny school with a great bunch of kids and it started my year off wonderfully.

The very next day, I was at Mast Way School in Lee, NH where I was greeted by this:

I love, love, love it when schools get the kids excited about a visit beforehand. I love it even more when the do it with wonderfully ridiculous bulletin boards like this.

I look good here.

I did not actually write this letter. You'll be hearing from my lawyers, Mast Way School.

Adele Pulitzer, the librarian at Mast Way had done a great job preparing the students for my visit, something that always keeps it extra fun for everyone.

Thanks to everyone at Lunenburg School and Mast Way for starting my school year off so well.
